Every year, for the last several years, I make some plans for what I want to accomplish. This is part of a plan that I have used since 2011, which I review quarterly to keep me on track and to break the tasks down into bite sized chunks. It seems, however, that sometimes my interests and life takes a new turn to reveal some goals to drop and others to emerge. One good example of this was a goal in 2015 to write a blog post every single day of that first month. This turned into years and I finally took a break in August of2017. This year’s emerging goal is to write 100 letters.
Before I when to Korea, I was very interested in writing snail mail letters and having pen pals. Then, I received orders for an unaccompanied assignment to Korea and this fell by the wayside being surrounded by stress and busyness. My desire for “snail mail” surfaced was once again over the Christmas Holidays. As I returned to work and began searching through my pen pal club memberships, I wrote a couple of letters. I enjoyed the time of writing those letters that I looked for more opportunities to write more. Now, after sending five letters over the past couple of weeks, I look forward to writing more—especially as those to whom I have written begin to respond. The thought crossed me then that I could write 100 letters to people in a given year. That is 25 letters per quarter or two a week.
Obviously, I am not an experienced letter writer yet. But, this challenge will push me to perfect my handwriting—which has gotten a little sloppy; and improve my ability to tell stories. I also look forward to getting to know others as they write back. I will try to remember to keep you posted on my progress. I will be writing through “The Letter Exchange”. “Letter Writer’s Alliance”, and “International Pen Friends Europe”. I look forward to the adventure that I am beginning!
