In the 1990s when I was in college, I spent my summer at the ROTC Advance Training Camp. One of the memories from that training was the nighttime patrols that we would conduct. For several days, we would spend all day out in the training area and at night we would circle up in a perimeter and every other person would stay awake keeping watch for the “enemy”. One of the hardest things for me to do during that time was to stay awake. Even though I knew that someone could come by and get me in trouble, I would slowly drift in and out of sleep.
I am so glad that the Lord never sleeps. In Psalms 121, the psalmist writes: “My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.” (Psalm 121:2-3 ESV) In those times that we are in need of help, God is there. He never sleeps and never slumbers. There are many times when I travel to a city and hear an ambulance siren in the middle of the night rushing to a call, I can pray for the person and the family who is need of help; because God never sleeps and is always ready to help and to comfort.
If you are in need of help today, turn to God who loves you and never sleeps. He will help you even in the darkest of nights.
