In 1967, the 196th ASHC deployed to Camp Lane or Lane Army Airfield in Vietnam. My friend, Jim Gavin, sent me these photos of the air field.
As with contractors that I experienced in Iraq, operations in Vietnam used local populations to perform routine tasks like laundry for the Soldiers. These “Hooch Maids” didn’t have the advantages of the massive laundry facilities that we had in Iraq, they used the water from the shower room and pans.
In an effort to find more information about Lane AAF, I found a Google Earth Map of the US Bases in Vietnam. And some more photos of Lane AAF from 1968-1972. There I as able to see the location and satellite views of Camp Lane as it looks now. It is interesting to see the satellite views of the place where my father spent a year of his life.
