On Saturday, when our family went to the Las Cruses Farmer’s and Crafts Market, we entered a Main Street Used Book Store that was second to none. The COAS Book store is located on the corner of West Court Avenue and North Main Street. The store is so big it takes up most of the block on Main Street.
After our visit on Saturday, I drove back up there today to find more books of what I was looking for. This is a bookstore that has absolutely everything. Every possible subject seems to be covered—at least those I was looking at. Because the store is made up of old building along Main Street, the store truly is a maze that keeps going until you find what you are looking for. It is an exciting place to visit if you are a book lover.
I was also impressed by the organization. The books are all categorized by subject or genre. This is not usually the case with used books stores. Many times, I have found that the store started to try to organized but gave up somewhere along the way. The COAS Bookstore is run like a library—the books are shelved and maintained. It is amazing. The prices of the books are also very reasonable. Most are under ten dollars—but for high demand, rare books the prices are set accordingly. The staff of the store during both visits were much better than I have seen at any other bookstore, period. Several times, I was approached to help find anything and when I asked, no matter how obscure, the staff went right to the shelves.
The COAS Bookstore is one place you should visit if you are in the El Paso or Las Cruses area. It sets the standard for other used books stores to follow. I am still amazed at how great of a bookstore I was able to experience.
