This week was our first week in El Paso after an absence of two years. We are reminded everyday of how we love this place and our home on Fort Bliss has definitely become a true home—even though none of our belongings have arrived.
On Monday, we signed for and moved into our home at Fort Bliss. We are currently sleeping on air mattresses and watching TV off the internet app—thanks to Spectrum streaming all of its programing online. Our house was built in 1914 across the street from the Modernization Command and the Post Library. These buildings once housed the Air Defense Artillery School. We are in the most beautiful area on Fort Bliss.
Tuesday was a day where we slowly became accustom to the house and began picking up the things we needed to make things more comfortable. We spent some time at the library and signed up for the summer reading program and Elizabeth Anne joined a book club. We started our day with some sitting on the porch—something that is beginning to become an enjoyable habit.
Will reminded me that Wednesday was the day I had planned to take him to see the new Spider-man movie, so he and I got in the truck and went to the movies for lunch.
After a long day of working outside, sweeping the porches and mowing the lawn, Jenny and Will spent the evening after supper telling each other “ghost stories”. They have been watching Goosebumps episodes during the move which has encouraged their recent interest in storytelling.
Today was haircut day. I hope to start in-processing on Monday and Will was looking shaggy, so we went to the barber in the morning. On the way back, we found ourselves in the Fort Bliss and Old Ironsides Museum. Will enjoyed walking through seeing the tanks and the trucks. It was a wonderful way to spend the morning.
We are slowly getting settled into our routines here and with work starting again on Monday—life will begin to move to our new normal.
