I often hear people asking for prayer requests and talking about their hardships. I also hear of people trying to figure out what God is doing in their lives or what God would have them do in their lives. This is forward thinking, which is good—but what about looking back and giving thanks?
The Bible tells us: “Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!” (Psalm 105:1, ESV) We are to give thanks to the Lord—for the many blessings that he has done in our lives. There are blessings beyond measure, if we would take time to see them.
We need to spend more time calling upon his name—asking him to show us what we have to be thankful for. We are quick to ask for things and we are quick to ask for God to expose sin in our lives—but how often do we stop and ask for God to reveal what good things he has already done for us so that we may give thanks. It is easy for us to take what we see as normal for granted. But as we see the blessing s we have been given, it is much easier to be thankful.
Then, we need to tell others. The Bible is clear that we should make know or blessing to those around us. Many times we focus on simply sharing the gospel with others, maybe sharing the gospel begins with simply making know his deeds with others.
