I mentioned in a post titled “How I Prepare on the Day of the Race” that I make a list on AnyList that reminds me of the different items I need to pack for my race day. The night before the race, I lay all of these items out on thekitchen table or my desk to get ready to go.
This is my list:
Pack race bag. Some races provide a bag for a drop off, but I typically use them to hold my gear so I make sure I take it all with me. Inside that bag, I place my:
Yellow sweat shirt and long pants. This helps me warm up after a race. Many times, I have noticed that I begin to chill after I stop running.
Gatorade towel. This helps me wipe down my face before my trip home.
Bagel in Ziplock bag. Sometimes I am hungrier when I get to the race than when I left the house and I want to make sure I have a snack available before the race, if needed.
Change of socks. Again, good for after the race.
Pack cooler with throw away water bottle (for before the race), chocolate milk, and Gatorade bottle (forafter).
Race bib. My ticket into the race.
Timing chip. No chip, no time.
Sunscreen. When I leave the house it is dark, but when I arrive I see that sunscreen maybe inorder.
Race belt. This is where I pack my keys, gels and my iPhone.
Gels
Eat breakfast. It may sound crazy, but I need to remind myself to eat before I leave the house. I usually set out Swirl Bread and Peanut Butter.
Map route to starting line. I plug the race location in my phone the night before.
Leave glasses in truck. I lay out my glasses, but also leave them in the truck to run. I need a reminder not to take them with me.
Charge phone. I put my iPhone on the charge the night before.
GPS Watch (charged). I place my watch on top of my iPhone to make sure I pick both of them up.
