In Korea, during this time of the year, it is not uncommon to get caught in a rainstorm. As the rain begins to fall, many people reach for their umbrellas or head for shelter. In our lives, there are storms—some of these are seasonal, some are somewhat regular. In these times we can seek to find shelter, or refuge, in God.
As I was walking the other day, I was caught in a storm. I crossed the street to a middle island, but the light would not allow me to cross to get out of the rain. I stood there helpless and exposed.
The Bible says;
“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.” (Psalm 5:11, ESV)
It seems that in a heavy rain storm every part of our body becomes wet from this rain—there is no stopping this rain. It always amazing that, even though there are no puddles, my shoes also become filled with water. Our only hope is to get out of the rain and under shelter. This is the exact same thing in our personal lives. Our only hope is to find shelter in a God who loves us. God loved us so much that he sent his son to be that shelter, to be that refuge. We are foolish—as foolish as standing in the rain—if we do not run to him.
If you are going through a storm today…get out of the rain and find shelter in Him.
