One of my favorite things to do in El Paso was to hike in the Franklin Mountains. In an afternoon, I could go up several thousand feet to the top of the highest point in the area and look down at the surrounding city and desert. For someone, like me, who is afraid of heights, this was a big deal. I could walk higher and higher because I would be standing on solid ground. Although the challenge to hike farther and to push myself to reach the top, my feet were firm and there was no fear as I would hike.
In our lives, sometimes we encounter struggles and challenges as we climb. We have parenting struggles, school struggles, job struggles, health struggles, and marriage struggles. It seems that while we are going through these challenges that we are climbing a mountain and the pain becomes great the higher we go. These challenges are hard and the climb is tough. But we can face those challenges with no fear because we can trust in the Lord through it all. The Bible says in Isaiah: “Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.” (Isaiah 26:4 ESV) That is a promise to all of us! We can trust in him and stand firm when going through our struggles. We can trust in the Lord God forever—through any trial or struggle–because he is the everlasting—never-ending, always present, always faithful, eternal–rock.
