I am often amazed at how our world is changing. Many times, these changes are exciting because they bring so much to our finger tips through technology and connectivity. I am often saddened, however, by the loss of the basics in our world. We are losing the ability to be simple.
I visited Walmart tonight to quickly pick up some items that we needed before the weekend and, I wanted to use the shopping trip to spend some one on one time with one of my daughters. One of my missions there was to pick up a writing tablet for writing letters. To my complete surprise, I found none. None in the office supplies and none in the greeting card section. None. I simply understand that this is probably due to the lack of market for simple tablets. It was surprising, however, that in the aisles and aisles of stuff, that there was not a need for a simple white tablet.
The truth is that we do not write letters any more. But, we also do not receive any either. We do not write cursive anymore, and we barely write print.
I was in the eye clinic last month, when the technician asked me to write my address on a reminder card that they sent out once they received our new set of glasses. He complemented me on my knowing how to write my address. He said; “You wouldn’t believe the different ways I have seen people write their address!”
It is a sad commentary on where our society is. We need to get back to some of the simple things in life.
