While I look at all the things that I want to get done, I look at the clock and see clearly that I cannot get it all done. There other aspects of life that are calling for my attention and, yes, they are more important. I need to prioritize.
I must prioritize for the great versus the good.
There are some things that I want to do that are simply good to do. Not the best and not the worst. In some way it is like choosing a book. There are a lot of good things to read out there they are entertaining, but there are also books that will change my life if I read them. I cannot read both–so I must choose the great over the good.
I must prioritize for the now.
There are some other things that I can do right now that I cannot do anywhere else. Such was the case with my short but enjoyable time with Longboarding. I was in El Paso where it was sunny most of the year. The river had a eight mile long sidewalk next to it where I could learn–in some degree of privacy. It is also the case of video games. I have wanted to learn to play video games for years. But, at home, I have other obligations. These obligations prevent dedicated time to devote to learning skills to play effectively. Now is the only time I must learn these skills. It is only once I gain the skills will I be able to refine them with time spent at home.
I must prioritize for the reality.
Then the question must be asked on whether the task is realistic. Or, does it match up with reality? Some things that I want to do simply cannot be done on top of other goals that I desire to achieve. Something must fall off. This is when I must look at the other two requirements and make that hard choice of choosing what do I really want to do.
Living with less is not easy, but trying to live with more is an impossibility. Prioritizing is the key. And the biggest choice we will constantly make.
