Annie Grace (Shepard) Andrews is my Great Grandmother, married in 1893 to James Matthew Andrews. As I continue to dig into my family history, the plot gets thicker and thicker. Here Annie Grace became a mystery.
Sorting through the 1870 U.s Census, it was easy to find little two year old Annie–daughter of William and Robina Sheppard. Through some other undocumented notes, Annie’s mother died in 1876, when Annie was only eight. This is somewhat confirmed by the fact that W. G. Shepard is widowed for the 1880 census.
In that census, Annie is listed as a boarder with Frank and Mary Cook, a hotel waiter with a wife, Mary, and two children. The family also was boarding Willie Tapiola during this time, as well as Frank Cook’s Mother-in-law Judith Bell. It is fascinating to me that W.G. Sheppard would send a twelve year old girl to live with other people, so there is much more background to be investigated there.
According to the Escambia County records, James M. Andrews married Annie G. Shepard on 1893. Interestingly enough, that is pretty much all I know about her right now. I know she had some land transactions, but I am still trying to find her in other documents through out her life.
In the 1940 census, Annie Andrews lived on The Loop Road, and she died on August 30, 1944.
