Our world is obsessed with having a lot of money. However, we lack the fear of the Lord. The Bible is quite clear that it is “better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.” (Proverbs 15:16, ESV)
We are a nation whose drive is to make more and more money. We idolize those who do, we like to see the Lives of the Rich and Famous” and dream about how great our lives would be if we had all of those things. We love to watch the home improvement shows to see live miraculously transformed because of material blessing.
The truth is, however, this materialism doesn’t bring happiness—many times it just brings more stress and more greed. While there is nothing wrong with living comfortably, as we look to exceed this, we must wonder who we are glorifying. There are people who are talented in making money or paid greatly in their field for the talents that they have. Again, there is nothing wrong with this. But, the problem is in our hearts.
If we are storing up treasure to find happiness from our turmoil, we are only looking in the wrong places. We need to find our hope in the Lord. We need to discover the profit of fearing the Lord—much more than having a big bank account or a big house.
So, my question for you is; Where are you storing your treasure?
