The weekend before Christmas, my wife and all three kids went on a trip to Trier, Germany.
We have been there before, so we had an idea of where to park. We plugged in the GPS–the only way to travel–and followed the voice commands to our destination. We were able to quickly find a parking space, and get all three little ones out of the car and into their strollers. We walked to the elevator and took our turns going down–the elevator only supports one stroller. Monica and Will had to wait.
I rolled out of the elevator on the first floor and waited.  Mary Catherine, Elizabeth Anne, and I watched the people come and go. Into the stairwell behind us, most of the people were climbing. Some people were walking on the street. Everybody was dodging the cold air blowing under the awning.
The three of us were waiting when I heard Mary Catherine’s two year old voice say; “Superman!” Of course, I was waiting for “Look! up in the sky!” But, asked “what?” She said “Superman” and pointed in the direction of the video store next to us. Inside, stood a life size statue of the The Man of Steel. I was proud that my daughter knows her comic book characters, so when Monica and Will came down, I took them all to pay homage to the “strange visitor from another planet.”

How wonderful! And what a great tie in with your blog purpose.
Super heroes can be ideal mentors to children, showing us our strengths and weaknesses, and that we are always tougher than we think we are. We are all heroes. Glad your child knows one when she sees one. And the hero is you, for opening your children’s eyes up to the big world around us. 😀
