One of the aspects of Free Comic Book Day that I was excited about was the three or four comic books that were promotionals for instructional drawing and writing books.
One of my favorite companies for instructional books is Impact books. I first noticed Impact while reading Peter David’s “Writing for Comics”. Since reading that book, I have looked through several others at the books store. This promotional book gives the reader an excellent sample of what Impact books have to offer.
While the lessons where short , the book did give some quality information about the art of comic books. I’m not an artist. I like, however, to see the comic book art, but I really have no desire to learn. Everytime I do get the desire, I realize how hard drawing would be and I realize that I have other priorities. I think I need to focus on the writing, if I’m going to do anything related to comic books one day. This comic book, then, gives a good reference on some of the art for me to refer to.Â
Impact produces some quality instructional materials and this little comic book spread gives a great introduction to them.
