As I walked back to my office after lunch, I was happy to see firetrucks parked in front of my building. Of course, no lights were flashing and they were empty. This gave me a perfect opportunity to take a couple of good photos of the fire trucks in Korea.
These fire trucks were from U.S. Army Area I, but from my observations represent what firetrucks looking in the civilian environment as well. They seem to be smaller than the ones in America. One truck was made by Pierce, an American company, and the other was made by Starco, a European company.
The crew for these trucks were training inside the nearby education center, where they spent some time doing classroom work. A little later in the afternoon I watched them training in the back of the building on some rescue techniques. The crews, even on post, are Korean nationals. This probably insures longevity in the area and continuity of personnel. This group has a large area to operate in and many different out of the way places, so it is good to see that they are well equipped and trained for the job.
I have a lot of respect for all the fire and rescue personnel around the world. They are truly unsung heroes that sacrifice much for their communities. These personnel, regardless of the nation’s ideological idea, spend their time and energy to help others. It was good to see their professionalism on display outside my window.
