One of the tasks that I have been tackling over the last several months…and will continue to for several months in the future is getting my genealogy research put together in binders.
With the advent of digital research in genealogy, it is wonderful to be able to have research capability at your finger tips—this is great until you lose control of the research.
You may lose control of the research by having your computer crash, by being over loaded with new information, or—as in my case—getting busy with the rest of your life that you forget where you are in your research.
So, I moved to binders.
I do keep copies of digital files in my Family Tree Maker software—as well as I use it to guide most of my research. However, I am currently building a notebook for each of the four sides of my family—my parents and Monica’s parents. I am filling in the blanks for the first five generations and placing the document copies in sheet protectors behind each person to document my certainty of their relationship to me or to Monica.
When I have completed this task, I plan on moving forward—or backward in time, rather—to gather more information about the preceding generations.
Having these notebooks, at the ready, have definitely increase my enjoyment of genealogy, while keeping my focused on my current tasks at hand.
