Giraffes are my favorite animals.
I’m not quite sure when or where they became my favorite, but they are. In the past three cities that we have lived in, we have become members of the “Friends of the Zoo” club or its equivalent. These clubs allow members to have free visits throughout the year. With our family of four young kids and two animal loving parents, the membership is definitely the way to go. In most cases, these memberships pay for themselves in about two visits. When we go to visit these zoos, we always have to find the giraffe.
Giraffes are different from many of the other animals, primarily because of their size. Their neck allows them to eat leaves high into the trees. However, they also allow them to eat of the ground. In many zoos the giraffes are also tame enough to eat out of the visitor’s hand. This allows the visitors to see the giraffes up close. Probably much closer than other animals.
Interestingly enough, one of the most appealing things about a giraffe is how they walk. They have such long legs and must be careful not to fall, but with grace they move across the land.
Giraffes are interesting to me. I always have to stop and watch them to see how they move to watch them in their habitat. They are an interesting creature, designed by God. What a blessing it is to have the Giraffe in our world!
