Over the last year in Korea, the one adventure that I repeatedly enjoyed was riding the train. I call it an adventure because, unfortunately, we don’t have anything like the Korean rail system where I am from; or, frankly, where I will ever be.
One of the reasons for the effective train system in Korea is the size of the country. South Korea is roughly the size of a large state in the US. With most of the population in the cities. It makes sense that they have a good rail system. The US, for the most part is too spread out. I would love to see Amtrak pickup more routes and more availability but this does no-good unless people ride it. This leaves me to the Korean Trains as my experience.
These trains run at regular times and they have built nice facilities to wait on the trains as they come and go. They are easy to jump on and ride to the destination. I actually prefer it to driving, but the walk to get to the train is much less desirable.
They also have different types of trains for different routes. For Uijeongbu, there is a light rail system and for Seoul toward the Southern parts of the country they have a bullet train system to rapidly move people to different destinations further away.
It has been a good experience riding these trains across the country, giving me the opportunities to visit the different areas that Korea and Seoul have to offer.
