Roger Miller once sang:
“Leave the door open and the fly comes in
That’s the way it is and how’s its always been;
That’s the way it’s always been.”
This morning, my daughter went out on the balcony to read. It was a beautiful fall day, so I left the door open while I work on some stuff just inside the door. Before long, a fly flew in.
Since El Paso had several days of rain the flies and mosquitoes have been out in force. It is amazing how that happens.
Do they sit and wait until there is rain until they decide they want to appear? It is like the mosquitoes dropped from inside the rain drops. It is really crazy. Now, the mosquito problem is not as bad as it was once when we had a pile of leaves underneath our porch–but it has been frustrating.
Soon the dryness will settle back in–we’ve had several days without clouds, so it can’t be too far off–and then we’ll will no longer see the flies or mosquitoes until the next year when it rains.
