Wikipedia explains:
“National Corndog Day is a celebration of basketball, the corn dog (A corn dog is usually a hot dog sausage coated in a thick layer of cornmeal batter), Tater Tots, and American beer that occurs in March of every year on the first Saturday of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship.”
Now, I don’t support the beer part—but you must have corn dogs with tater tots—especially if you buy them from Sonic. In fact, Sonic Drive-ins make great corn dogs and many times have them on a 50 cent sale—which makes them all the more appealing. There is also Hot Dog on a Stick where they make the corn dog in front of you at the counter. The drink to have with those corn dogs is their delightful Lemonade.
Most of the time, the corn dogs I eat and from the freeze aisle. State Fair Corndogs are very good when you bake then, extra special if you deep fry them, but bearable if you just throw them in the microwave when you are in a hurry. I always like to have a box of these on hand—just in case!
My favorite corn dogs of all time are from the “Little Red Wagon” food cart at Disneyland. I always remember those corn dogs at every mention of the word. The batter is thick and the hot dog inside is huge! They are the best ever!!
So, if you haven’t already celebrated—today is the day to celebrate National Corn Dog Day!
