During my training for half marathons, there are days that I need to have a little more focused diet on protein. A couple of months ago, this need led me to ask Monica to pick up some protein bars at the grocery store. I cannot remember the situation, but I think I had forgotten to pick them up before an upcoming long run and she was grocery shopping the day before while I watched the kids. She picked up a package of Zone Perfect Nutrition Bars at the additional advice of a friend.
Since that time, these bars have become a stable go to for extra protein. I use the bars after a long run—8 miles or more, after a race, or even as a midday snack on ordinary run days. They are not that expensive, roughly a dollar apiece, so that is not as big of a deal as dealing with more expensive bars. However, they provide great nutrition on a routine basis. I think I still prefer a protein bar of 30g after a 10 or 12 mile run, but the 14g protein provided by the zone perfect bars definitely helped me not to feel overly hungry later in the day.
Zone Perfect brand nutrition bars have a variety of flavors to pick from so you can switch them up before one certain flavor gets old, but the bars taste very good. This is typically a downside to protein bars because the whey protein is not that great. However, Zone Perfect does a great job of providing a great flavored snack bar.
Zone Perfect is a great protein bar to move you past your morning run and that is why it is my pick of the week!
