This morning as I was talking to another Soldier, he mentioned to me that sometimes in life we get to a point where everything on the front end is all complete and you are simply waiting for the result to take shape. After thinking about this, I said; “It’s kind of like planting tomatoes, you do all the work and set all of the conditions, but you have to wait for the plant to grow to enjoy the tomatoes.”
The Bible says:
“Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” (Psalm 27:14 ESV)
The Bible also says:
“Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:30-31 ESV)
Many times in life we are called to simply wait. We must understand that even as the plant is growing, there are powerful nutrients at work preparing the fruit to be ready at the right time. If you rush, the fruit will not be ripe. If you delay, the fruit will spoil. We must actively wait. Actively waiting is watching and caring. We are not just forgetting that the plant is there, we are watering and checking. Watching for the right moment to pick. We watch and wait through prayer; constantly bring our needs to God, trusting in his grace to guide you toward his will. We watch and wait through service; constantly serving and keeping an eye out for His answers. We watch and wait through rest; trusting in God that he will see us through, and maybe it is time for us to rest and get ready for the next chapter.
We don’t like to watch and wait. We want instant answers. Sometimes the best we can do is watch and wait.
