I have been writing for the last three weeks on Spiritual Stuff for Soldiers. Today, I complete the series with an encouragement to send Reminders.
At times, it is nice to have something to hold.
The Catholics, in many ways, have this right. I don’t believe necessarily in “Praying the Rosary”, but a good Catholic Chaplain once taught me that the Rosary is simply a tool to guide your prayers. This can then translate into other things as well. I have a St Micheal medal for the 101 Airborne Division that is on my dog tags. Do I pray to St. Micheal–again, no. But it is a reminder that I am a Christian, and a reminder that I was once, and probably forever will be, a Screaming Eagle–a part of that history Air Assault Division.
Reminders connect a Soldier to the roots.
They have the power to bring life in perspective by reminding us that there are people that we are apart of, that love us and that are praying for us. I recommending sending something that is a reminder of your commitment to support the Soldier.
On my desk, I have a picture frame on my desk that reminds me of the people at Adopt-A-Chaplain.org. Adopt-a-Chaplain.org is an organization that has faithfully sent me words of encouragement and support throughout this past year. The simple framed “certificate of adoption” reminds me of their commitment each day as I look at it on my desk.
Find a reminder that suits the person.
It could be a standing cross, or a small framed picture. I also have a craft project sent from a Vacation Bible School class on my wall. Reminders are incredibly important to the Spiritual health of the Soldier.
I, again, encourage you to send a spiritual reminder to your Soldier downrange. It is a great way to place in their hands something that will call their attention to the wonderful grace and hope in Jesus Christ.
