While Sunday is a day of rest, part of resting is reflecting on the week ahead. There are many times this is as simple as considering what I have to do in the week ahead and prioritizing in my mind, what I believe to be most important.
Sometimes, this is a little easier if I take the five minutes it takes to clean up my desk.
One of my biggest desires is to simplify my life. I’m doing this by maintaining an inbox at zero and by managing my time to be most effective to maximize the time available and to not bleed into family time.
One of my biggest stressors is that I like to do new stuff. I’m getting better at saying “no”, but there are so many cool things out there to do—and wouldn’t it be cool to do them? But, I soon discover that I can’t do them all—and I especially can’t do them all well.
But, I still dabble with a lot of little piles growing on my desk.
Once and awhile, I have to throw in the towel and say; “I will work on that later, and focus now on what I am trying to be good at.” So, this Sunday, I am cleaning up the little pile on my desk, removing some books that have simply turned into clutter and start over—focusing on what I most interested in.
One of them happens to be writing.

Mike and I are currently trying to share a desk, and he keeps moving my pile! And the girls keep adding stuff to it. I am finding it very hard to clear my space and that is overwhelming. I find it refreshing to start the week with a clear desk.
