We received our Target Spring Catalog in the mail yesterday. I’m guessing that Target uses the politically correct term of “Spring Catalog” rather than “Easter”—but it is very clear which holiday the catalog is focused on.
I saw the book and thought “how nice—an Easter catalog”. I was expecting Easter Baskets, Peeps, fluffy bunnies, and Dresses. I’m comfortable with a small display of celebration for families to enjoy—Easter Egg Hunts and Easter Baskets.
I am comfortable with what I saw.
When I opened the catalog—what I found was a full blown “Christmas Wish Book” for Easter. I understand the desire to expand the Christmas buying season into Easter—but this is not even close to the message of Easter.
Easter is about death and Resurrection. Not toys and gifts.
Easter is about Salvation—period. To cloud the holiday with gross materialism is an offence to the very message of hope that world so desperately needs.
