This weekend I spent much of my time browsing old photos and 35mm slide transparencies.
Of course, this was to support my hobby of genealogy. It is interesting to see the old photos–particularly the slides. In the 1970s many of the pictures that my family took were taken using slide film to be viewed on a projector. Through the years however the projector became more and more cumbersome and with the advent of digital, more and more obsolete. Fast forward to 2010, many of the slides have not been seen for 20 may be 30 years. As you can imagine, this added to the mystery of was in the boxes of slides that I began to scan. I first browsed through the pictures holding them up to light and then began to scan them into the computer. This opened a fascinating door to my family history. I am becoming more and more interested in pictures of family, of locations, and of activities that my ancestors and family have been involved as I move further and further into my hobby of genealogy. The passion for building this history grows with ever every clue that uncover.
If you are a budding genealogist or family historian I cannot recommend enough to scan 35mm slides tucked away in your father’s closets that may open the door to further investigation.
