The three most popular words in Iraq, next to “you’re going home” are “You’ve got mail”. No this is not the words from the AOL email box, but true snail mail from the States ro from Germany.
It is important that we are comunicating to our spouses in a variety of ways that we love them and support them.Â
In Iraq, we have limited availablility to send care packages. “What are we going to send?” I heard a Soldier say, “I roll of toilet paper and a bar of soap?” But we can and should send letters. It is important that we don’t  get so tied to email that we forget how important a written letter is to the spouses back home.
The Soldier in Iraq loves to recieve a package in the mail. It means more than the contents, but speaks to the Soldier in a special way. A care package says to the Soldier that the spouse in the States or in Germany understands the hardship of living in Iraq. It comuniicates a sincere desire to help they deployed spouse.
Using the mail systen is a great way to add a touch of romance to the relationship that is separated by more days than miles.
