Finishing the first full week of work here in Korea makes it difficult to go back and talk about everything that happened. Most obit, unfortunately, was pretty dry. I focused much of my time working on paper products to guide our work and ministry to Soldiers throughout the next year. Putting it all together must be done to be effective, but becomes painful after a while.
Sunday was my first worship service in the Camp Red Cloud “Memorial Chapel” where I will be attending and preaching this year. It is a beautiful stone structure build in the 1960s. It is situated right inside the front gate so it is actually the first thing people see when they come on post. It is a great honor to be a part of the history there.
Monday was a busy day with meeting and setting up the tracking systems. When I finally was able to make it home, I snapped a photo of the delivery car of the nearby Popeye’s. It seems that every large restaurant delivers in Korea. I saw advertisements in another post that even Krispie Kreme delivered. Now that is a cultural aspect that I could adopt!
Tuesday, as I walked home, I noticed a beautiful sunset over the mountain. There are mountains all over this part of Korea and they are a constant reminder of God’s creative hand!
Wednesday, I was waiting on a meeting that was delayed. Rather than wait outside for a half an hour, I stopped into the Community Activities Center and rested in the air conditioning. I am impressed by the well-kept facilities that we provide for our Soldiers. Places like these provide a great opportunity to unwind from the day’s work.
Thursday, was the day when the Division Command Sergeant Major authorized rolled sleeves. Actually, it was later mandated for everyone in our Battalion. It is different, ut it also brings back the old days when we rolled the sleeves up on the BDU’s.
Then there is today. I have not shown many photos of my apartment yet because it is very empty, however, this week is kind of special. I got my internet turned on this week, so I was able to get wireless ready throughout my room which helps with blogging and communication back home.
While the week seemed slow, I am happy that I was able to capture a little bit of what life looks like for me.
