I’ll have to admit that when I got up this morning–I was a little sluggish.
I was actually sore.
But, I ran anyway.
Since I have been back, I have started running on pavement again and walking about two to four miles back and forth from the units. That change of pace has taken a toll on me this week. the travel earlier in the week didn’t help either–Sunday and Monday nights, I went to bed after 0400. Needless-to-say, I really wasn’t the most energetic getting out side to run.
I woke up to run and realized that I wore the last long sleeve PT shirt yesterday–at 54 degrees, it was cold out side.
I ran anyway, hoping to deal with it.
I stretched and set my watch. This was the first time that I have worn my watch outside in a while–opting to simply enjoy running rather than time myself so much. But, this morning, I simply wanted to see how I was doing.
As I began to run, a group of Soldiers ran by. Then another group. both from another unit–some of the people I knew and the greeted me.
Then a third group came by–not in formation just running. They were Soldiers from my unit, and all smiles. It was nice to see them and it certainly made me feel good.
After they passed, I looked at my watch which read 5 minutes. I had only been running for five minutes, but I had passed the half mile mark! I was running well.
I kept going to the turn around point and reached it in 8 minutes, 11 seconds. then I began to focus. I typically just plod along with a 10 minute mile. This morning, I was hitting an 8 minute mile with no sweat! What a motivator!!
So I ran through the last half mile and was still a little of pace until the last 50 meters. It was then that I began to sprint a little. I crossed the finish line, stopped the clock, and then looked at my final time 15:48.
It was the beginning of a feel good day!
