Crystal at Life at the Circus wrote to me on Sunday:
My husband’s cousin is currently deployed and I am often racking my brain for things to send over to him to encourage him. Thanks for this idea. I am wondering if it would still be useful if the bulletin is from a church that isn’t his home church? We’ve sent him sermon tapes in the past and always some home made food. Any other suggestions for things to send that would be spiritually encouraging?
This week, I am starting a four week series to answer the question; “What can I send that would be spiritually encouraging?”
As I mentioned on Sunday, I do recommend that you send your church bulletins to Soldiers. I’ve thought about it a little more and will add that:
1. Bulletin’s offer a personal touch of what is going on at home. This is so important to a Soldier who is far from home.
2. Bulletin’s offer a reminder of the importance of attending church–and will encourage them to attend chapel.
3. Bulletin’s also give a snap shot of scripture references, hymns, and prayer concerns than can encourage the daily devotional life of the Soldier.
This is best from the home church, but if you just send from your church, you are still sending a message of care and support.
For the next three Thursdays I will be writing on my other suggestions for spiritually encouraging Soldiers. I look forward writing these suggestions and hearing more from you all.
