Remember this guy? I sure do! He played both Baseball and Football–and not bad at either. He is the only player to ever make the All Star Team into two major sports. I was in high school when he started playing and it was all over the sport pages.
The picture of the card shows a young man still trying to find his place in the majors. After three years in the Royals, he has a blank stare that shows that he was always ready to learn and improve. I have much respect for him in accomplishing the impossible two sport career. And he did it with class.
The back of this card records his career batting average as .238 and played in the outfield. In the end, his eight year career batting average was .250. Looking at his career, it is interesting to note that he played baseball five years long than he played football. When it came time for him to give something up–he gave up football.
