Last weekend, I attended the Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief Retreat held within the beautiful grounds of The Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove. I came away with three major encouragements while I was there:
Lift Up the Name of Jesus: Hurting people need to hear about Jesus. We need to help people, we need to give them the aid that they need in hard times, but we need to tell them about Jesus. And Jesus needs to receive the glory in all things.
The Importance of the Ministry of Presence: Volunteers with Samaritan’s Purse are able to minister to hurting people simply because they are there. We can’t minister if we are at home or in our office—we must be there with them.
The Power of the Local Church: I was thinking how nice it would be to set up little Samaritan’s Purse branches throughout the country to respond to the disaster that occur daily…God then spoke to me; “I did, their called ‘the church.’ Samaritan’s Purse works closely with the local church—this is how they are designed, and how they mobilize hundreds of volunteers. We forget how powerful the church can be in our community.
