It has been a very wintry week here, with Sunday beginning with an all day long snow. Sunday was a warm day, that may have made it to about 38, before the snow began to stick.
As the snow fell the day before, the mountains that surround the city of Uijeongbu were exceptionally beautiful as I walked from place to place.
On Tuesday, our Chaplain’s office went off post to celebrate a successful week prior. We went to a resturaunt that serves “Army Soup”—a Uijeongbu created soup made originally from ramen noodles, canned ham rations (procurred mysteriously from the newby U.S. Army base), and kim-chi. They KATUSAs declared this resturaunt the best taasting Army Soup in town—and I’m inclined to believe them.
During Wednesday’s “Hail and Farewell” dinner, I sat next to the old fireplace inside the CG’s Mess. The plaque above the fireplace decribes a fire in the 1980s that destroyed the fireplace and how the fireplace was rebuilt six months later. As Camp Red Cloud is slowly closing, it is interesting to capture some of the history that we will lose as the base closes in 2018-2019.
Thursday night, I actually came back to my room a little early (about 1715) to get some homework done. As you would expect, the internet works better in the room than it does in the office—especially when the homework is to review several TED Talks on leadership.
As I finish up the week, I am looking forward to one week ahead to my flight to Kansas for a short visit.
