Getting settled here in Kansas has given us the opportunity to hang my running medals—something we have wanted to do but never really had a spot to place a hanger. Monica was able to hang my medals yesterday. This is a big encouragement to run more races and add to my slowly growing collection.
Last year, I ran two half marathons in the winter and truly enjoyed that accomplishment. This year, I expect to have an opportunity to be more consistent on my running throughout the year, so I am planning to run four half marathons. I also plan to run several 5Ks as they pop-up on the Fort Leavenworth MWR schedule (about one a month).
So for my 2015-2016 running season here in Kansas, I plan to run these four races.
On September 20, 2015, I will run the Broadway Bridge Run Half Marathon in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri. It will be nice to get downtown and see the city from a runners perspective—probably the best way to enjoy the entire town.
A second opportunity to run through the city will be October 17, 2015, when I run the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Half Marathon. As a part of the Kansas City Marathon, I look forward to seeing the premier event of Downtown Kansas City.
In the spring, I am planning to run the Burns and McDonnell Rock the Parkway Half Marathon on April 9, 2016. This race will be on Ward Parkway in Eastern Kansas City. I have already experienced about four miles of this course, so I have an image of what will see. It is a beautiful part of town and a fun route to run!
My highlight of this year is on May 14, 2016, with the Running With The Cows Half Marathon in Bucyrus, Kansas. This small farm community opens their town to this picturesque run through the pastures and farms. It will give me a great opportunity to enjoy the Kansas farmland before I leave in June.
I think I have planned a great year of running. I am looking forward to growing as a runner and enjoying the races throughout the area!
