Several times since July, when I began this blog, I have gotten scorched in my comments about something I have said. Truly scorched. In most cases, (come to think of it, ALL of them) I’ve had to delete them because of the vulgarity the person used to demonstrate his/her wisdom. I always appreciate good criticism. This is how I learn. In fact, I’m in the Army…I can get chewed out with the best of them. So, I want you to know that I’m not whining about some people who disagree with me. What I have a problem with is the fact that people get SO WORKED UP ABOUT COMIC BOOKS!
So, I want to explain why one should not take comic books so seriously.
First of all, comic books are not real. I know this may surprise some people, but there are not real people who have superpowers and run around in tights. It is nice to dream about, but it doesn’t happen. So, if they are not real…why get so worked up about it? There is enough to get worked up about. Therefore, take some time and enjoy a comic book. It doesn’t matter really, if someone disses your favorite character–get upset, but don’t lose sleep over it.
2. They represent an escape. There is enough out there to worry about–real problems: world peace, poverty, global warming (or not), or even world evangelism. To get so worked up about comic books only tells me that you have more problems that you are dealing with and you take it out on comic books and their readers. Comic books are a place to escape from the day to day drama of life, don’t bring your baggage into your hobby–make it a safe zone.
 3. They are fun. I enjoy comic books for the fun of it. That’s it. They are meant to be fun. So have fun, take a break from life and kick back with a good comicand enjoy. It is ok that you know everything about a character, its history, and its story–but don’t lose sight of why you started reading in the first place.
I hope that I have explained my laid back attitude a little bit. I have enough in my life that draws stress, and so do you. In trying to make this blog as good as possible, one thing has never crossed my mind–and that is to study more about the stories. I want the readers and the comics to tell me the stories. I will learn soon enough, but I won’t stress over it.

You’ve got the right attitude!
I admit I complain about the state of comics on my blog, but I consider it a forum to express my feelings – postive and negative.
Going on someone else’s blog to flame them is something I don’t understand. Respectfully disagree, is one thing but being a jerk is another.

I agree with you they are fun and a hobby but not life. now i know most would say that by saying that im not that in to comics. to them i say i read and buy over 30 a month, collect toys and movies, and have a Batman and Comic room in my house. i also interjected comics in to my wedding so im a comic nut but know what they are too. they are not real life and they are thier for american culture and fun. i love you blog because it gives such a fresh look at books, keep it up
