Spider-man faces death in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #24 (OCT 07).
Not his own, but of his Aunt May. This comic book has no conclusion, it offers a little ray of hope at the end, but covers a very important story.
Are comic books to be social teachers, no–not really. But in the conveyance of a story, if an important message is addressed–that is just good writing.
Death is an inevitable. Sometimes, we feel at fault–as Peter is in this story. But, the truth is death comes to everyone. And it comes to everyone differently.
DR. Stephen Strange says it best:
“If you Aunt passed away right now, this moment, and you were not there to hold her hand, and tell her you loved her, and let that love carry her across to the other side…you would regret it every day for the rest of your life.
Stop blaming yourself for the inevitable. Savor the time you had. Go to your Aunt, and give her every moment of your love.
There is no greater gift that you can give her now.”
Maybe it is time that we speak to the ones we love.
