I knew going in into this week, that it would not be a normal week. Three day weeks are always busy, as we seek to get a week’s work done in three days, so I decided to go to the Commissary and stock up early for the week ahead.
Tuesday, I took a moment to admire my little plants. I’ve had fun growing these from seeds—not my typical course of action, but it has been fun to have something to fuss over and to care for here in Korea.
At Camp Red Cloud, we celebrated Thanksgiving on Wednesday, so we had an abundant helping of Thanksgiving food for everyone. I had Turkey, Ham, Green Bean Casserole, Macaroni and Cheese, and Sweet Potatoes. Along with the side dishes of shrimp cocktail and the piece of cake (I can never turn away from cake). Several times through the week, there were helicopters coming and going on the helipad outside my building, from General Officers leaving to visiting Soldiers or visiting us—all a part of the tradition of an Army Thanksgiving. It is important that Soldiers feel appreciated by their leaders and their country on these special days.
After having Thanksgiving early, I spent most of Thursday in my room after enjoying my annual Thanksgiving run. At night, I went back out in the cold for supper at McDonald’s. On the way home, I stopped by Paris Baguette for a couple of packages of muffins for breakfast over the weekend. They are definitely worth the walk!
On Friday, I took the train to find coffee and took some photos for future blog posts!
I had a nice Thanksgiving week, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I feared and in the end, I actually had a good time!
