I am currently reading “The Artisan Soul” by Erwin MacManus, which is subtitled “Crafting Your Life into a Work of Art”. This book encourages the reader to think more creatively and allow the creative life that God gave us by making—or creating-us in his own image. By the very nature of the book, the author weaves in splashes of art history that inspire me.
I am not what many would consider an artist. I am more of a systems person, but I love art. And art continues to affect my life in amazing ways. I love to visit museums and, even as I write this, regret not visiting more museums and not spending more time in them when I do. Too many times, have I blown through a museum to make sure a caught a glimpse of the many different pieces of art rather than take the time to experience the masterpieces in full before moving on.
One concept I was reintroduced to as I read last night was an artist historical study. One of the technique many people do in order to gain a greater appreciation for art is to do their homework. I think this would apply to classical music as well as great Master Painters. I was encouraged to take a figure in art history and conduct a study on that person, time period, or even technique. The result of the study would definitely develop a greater understanding of the artist or concept. The greater concept would be to understand the lessons of the artist and apply the to my life.
