Several weeks ago, I feared that I wouldn’t be able to write this post. Obviously, there is much going on in the management of Twitter—much of it doesn’t affect me, however. I take great pains to mark “not interested” to any tweet that is remotely political—simply so I have a clean feed of things that I enjoy and do not drag me down the dark roads that are out there.
Over the years, from the fun early days to the polarized now, I’ve seen Twitter change, but I’ve changed too. On Twitter, now, I just read about things that I like—it is not a place that I get news (I get that primarily The New York Times or The El Paso Times). What I read from Twitter is news from Comic Books, Formula One, Pokémon, or different video games that I am playing—currently it is PGA Tour 2K23. I enjoy interacting with content creators or others that are interested in the nichey stuff that I’m interested in. This is what makes Twitter useful for me—its still a place to get the news from places that don’t really have another outlet.
It’s sometimes hard to believe that I’ve hung with this account for so long—but at the same time (and I’ve asked myself many times recently) I really don’t know where I’d be without it. I hope I can continue for another 15 years, because there is a place in our world for micro-blogging and the ability to find those little communities of people like me.
