During the respite hours provided by the Army Family Covenant, Monica and I were able to spend some time shopping at the local PX for some new running shoes.
My previous shoes were literally falling apart. The soles of the shoes were peeling off the bottoms after many miles of running and sports in the dirt and mud. These shoes were New Balance SL-1, which I really enjoyed. I’m finding that there are many different types of the SL-1 from New Balance, but the one I used has a model number or MR 661WS–if that means anything to you. I ran with these shoes through out the last year in Iraq. I probably over-extended their life with all of the running I did on them and the type of training. I’m hoping that with my Runner’s World Training Log, I will be able to track the life of the shoe easier.
This time, the designs of the New Balance shoes didn’t appeal to me. Some of it was color, but I don’t think that the Baumholder AAFES had the more appealing running shoes in stock, so I went with the ASICS brand. I have never used ASICS before. I used Nike for awhile, when I was younger and then went to the New Balance for the last ten years or so.
The shoes I selected was the ASICS GEL-1140, style T914N. It is white with blue and silver stripes. They had a good feel this morning on the treadmill, it will be nice to get to back to Iraq and get them on the road.
