In the early 2000s before Monica and I had children and before the Army, we enjoyed going frequently to the local minor league baseball games. The team was the Greenville (SC) Braves and we had a wonderful time attending the games. The G-Braves had a great promotion that allowed us to buy a packet of twelve tickets to use whenever we liked. There may have been some blackout dates, but that was fine with us. I think we went through at least two packs one summer. It was that experience that told me that one day, I would like to have season tickets to a local baseball team. I was reminded of this last year when I went to the El Paso Chihuahua’s games. We only were able to go to a couple but would have loved to be able to go to them all.
I learned that first summer that there is a social aspect of season tickets. We saw the same families over and over at the games. They would see other families doing the same thing and enjoying the summer, sitting in the good seats. We usually sat about ten rows behind them and got to recognize the same people every game. Also, it was always fun to cheering on the home team, seeing some of the up and coming stars play the game, some we have seen go to the majors and do well. It was always about baseball, but then, it was so much more.
It is on my bucket list to one day have season tickets to the local baseball team. It could be AAA, AA, A, or maybe even the Majors—it is hard to tell where we my live in the end. However, that is something that I would love to be able to do one day and root for the home team all summer long.
