For a couple of days in the week, I have been running at 5:00AM. I try to wake at 4:30 and be out the door at 5:00—then I will run for about 45 minutes or 4 ½ miles. Monica has been working out with a friend at 6:00AM, so my early run gives her a chance to exercise before I go to work. I typically have been running long on Sunday and then doing my routine runs on Tuesday and Thursday. This is off-cycle from most runners, who run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
It was interesting to me, this morning, seeing how many people run at that same time of day. This week, I got off my routine on Thursday and need to run on Friday this week. Running with the normal running crowd was surprising, as I saw that I was not the only one awake and running at 5:00AM. I think I passed, or got passed by, about ten runners this morning. I even saw a unit doing PT at that hour.
Many times, during my Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday runs, I am the only person on the road. It is very peaceful and quiet, providing a great time to get lost in thought. I was very pleased, however, to see others running with me at that time this morning. The other runners provided me the validation I needed to know that I wasn’t alone—there are other out there getting up and out the door, to get their miles in before the sun comes up.
