In Detective Comics 828, the Riddler actually helps Batman solve a case. I somehow missed it, but now the Riddler is trying to be one of the good guys and is now a detective. I don’t buy it, do you?
I think that the possibility of The Riddler becoming a believable good guy would actually be an interesting story line and, eventually become a lead in a mini-series or even an ongoing series. The idea of a bad guy turning himself around has an amazing number of options for the writer. First of all, I think that would open the hero to an agenda. I read somewhere, may the Writing For Comics book,  that the hero doesn’t drive the story, but the villain does. The villain has the agenda and the passion to cause grief in the story. In a “bad gone good” story, the good guy has the agenda–you don’t want to trust him, but he is genuinely seeking to gain your trust. Then to end it in a great scandal where the “bad gone good” goes back to his old ways.
I’m excited about the possibility of The Riddlers new role.
