This morning, I walked from my office to the Brigade Headquarters and was amazed by the beautiful sky. The strikingly blue sky spread over head as the Franklin Mountains rose up to meet it, reflecting too in the morning sun.
Growing up in South Carolina, I don’t think I have ever experienced a cloudless day until I went to Iraq and El Paso. Today’s humidity is 29%, so no cloud could survive out here. Therefore, it is absolutely breathtaking to see a sky wear there are no clouds—not even a touch of white.
The beauty of the sky is amazing. It is a solid shade of blue that extends from one horizon to the next. The flatness of the desert expands the visibility of the sky to where it is overwhelming. There aren’t even airplanes up there, for they fly in the early morning and at night.
The sky is different here. It seems to go on forever. Some days, I walk out side and simply take it in. Today was one of those days…and there will be plenty more.
