One of the nicest pleasures in America is drinking an ice-cold Coca-Cola from a glass bottle. Glass bottles are sometimes hard to find, but when I see the bottles in a store, I am tempted to pick up a six-pack and set them in a cooler of ice for the afternoon!
Of course, ice is what makes the difference in a Coca-Cola. You could make the drinks cold by placing them in a refrigerator, but the difference is in the ice.
I found a fun fact about ice-bath at UCSB ScienceLine, that describes why this is. UCSB says:
“In an ice-bath a soda can is surrounded by liquid water, but in a refrigerator, it is surrounded by air. Water is a much better conductor of heat than air, which means that heat moves via conduction from the soda into the water faster than it moves from the soda into the air…”
The bottom-line is that, Cokes that are chilled in ice is better than chilled in the refrigerator.
And then, I would add, that Coke is better in bottles than in cans.
In bottles, there isn’t an aluminum taste—for one reason. But another reason is that glass bottles brings the nostalgia element to the enjoyment of the drink. Coca-Cola is all about the nostalgia and the feeling of making history. There is something special about drinking a Coke the way it was meant to be drunk. This brings back images of history and possibilities of the future.
Drink your Coca-Cola, ice cold, in a glass bottle and you will notice the difference!
