As Bruce Wayne rises from the dead, he first visits his apprentices in The Road Home Series of books. While the books look like one shots they are part of a large interconnected story that not only follows Bruce Wayne but it also follows Vicki Vale’s detective work. I really do not understand the reasoning behind the separate titles—I would think that it would actually hurt marketing, by some people only buying one or two versus placing the whole title on the pull list.
Because of this continuity, it is important to read the books in order to understand the story line—otherwise, you would get somewhat confused.
The proper order for the books is:
1. Batman and Robin
2. Red Robin
3. Outsiders
4. Batgirl
5. Cat Woman
6. Commissioner Gordon
7. Oracle
8. Ra’s al Ghol
Each title could be a title that I would buy—except for Ra’s al Ghol. I am genuinely interested in all of these characters and would enjoy reading more from them. In fact, while I was reading I considered the character of Commissioner Gordon—when did he ever have his own comic book title? I have flash backs to the Gotham Central comic book—wouldn’t it be nice to see a Commissioner Gordon book?
Overall, the series was very good. It did a great job of setting the scene for the Batman Inc. series that comes out next month by providing the hows and whys. I completely recommend it.
