Today, I encountered a crisis at the PX. The crisis was not mine—but it unfolded right in front of me.
Now, for those who read this not familiar with the PX; the Post Exchange (PX) is the Army’s version of Target…kind of. It was originally developed to provide for Soldiers who are separated from any personal supplies—so they are particularly important downrange and in foreign countries. But, they also provide an extra convenience of shopping on an Army Installation; many times those installations are the size of small towns.
So what was this crisis at the PX I experienced?
There was a sale on candy.
Sales are good to see. Especially 75% sales on left over Halloween candy.
So, what was the problem with the sale? No one bothered to tell the cashiers.
In an Army Installation where rules are important. Breaking those rules is bad.
So in front of me—chaos was beginning to ensue.
Then somebody had a coupon! Aaagh!
75% off of candy…then a $1 off coupon…
Making the price lower than zero.
It was pretty funny—it took two cashiers to figure it out.
All of this took place in front of me, while I waited patiently.
I had to change lanes, however, when a supervisor came by and said “there no sale on candy!”
As I walked away, I overheard the customer saying; “yes there is”, to which the supervisor said “no there’s not”.
I was happy to see, as I walked by today, that the customers was right and that the store had finally put out signs directing people to the sale on Halloween Candy.
