As our family begins the process of moving to El Paso, TX and Fort Bliss, it is easy to get stressed about all of the details of the move—especially when I am coming in from Korea at the same time as we are moving. Studies show that moving is one of the most stressful life events. Other studies also show that redeployment is another stressful life event. So, our family is experiencing, or is about to, experience a double dose of stress in the coming weeks. The Bible, however, has some very encouraging words to say to that stress and anxiety.
The Bible says;
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, NIV)
Many times, when we try to handle the stress all by ourselves is when we make matters worse. I am a planner. I like to plan things. Many times, however, these plans don’t come out just right, but I just start planning again. I’ve noticed recently that planning can become simply “organized worrying” if I do not first cast that anxiety on the Lord. God has built me to be a planner and an organizer, so he can use the planner in me. But, he can only use this if I have first cast those anxieties on him.
Do you find yourself looking for ways to handle the stress yourself?
Maybe it is time to cast them on the Lord. He cares for you.
