One of the routine aspects of a military formation–especially in hot weather–is the poor Soldier who falls out.
Despite every precaution that we take to tell Soldiers to not lock their knees, to drink water before they go to a formation, kneel down if they feel faint, or even stretchout before it is time to stand at attention or parade rest–somebody will be at risk to fall out.
Today during an awards ceremony–we had two to faint and land on the ground. As always there were medics near by to take care of them.
I remember hearing about a Division formation I was in at Fort Campbell. I heard somebody said that the real action was happening in the back of the formation. The medics were running back and forth during the formation to get the people cooled off after falling into the grass.
It is one of biggest reasons why we don’t use boyonets anymore.
